2. What is National Philanthropy Day?
- National Philanthropy Day (NPD) is a day
set aside to emphasize the role philanthropy plays in enriching and
improving our lives and our communities. NPD was the brain child of
local philanthropist and attorney Doug Freeman. After five years of work
and hundreds of letters, the idea garnered support from a number of
community organizations. In 1986 President Ronald Reagan proclaimed Nov.
15 as National Philanthropy Day. Since then, communities throughout the
United States and Canada have joined together to honor the spirit of
giving in their own regions.
- Each year, Orange County's nonprofit
organizations have come together to honor the extraordinary individuals,
businesses and organizations that contribute so generously at the Spirit
of Philanthropy Awards Luncheon.

selected by a distinguished panel of judges who represent a broad
